Plot Synopsis:
In the capital of Yong’an, the collapse of the west canal in the city leads to the overnight conviction and imprisonment of Shen Wenqi, the official in charge of the fortifications.
The Shen family’s two daughters, Shen Shu and Shen Zhen, also find themselves engulfed in the quagmire one after another, with no eggs left under the overturned nest.
Of particular note, Shen Zhen, the younger daughter, accustomed to life in her boudoir and unfamiliar with worldly affairs, now must fend for herself on the streets.
Meanwhile, official Lu Shiyan, responsible for investigating the case, finds himself perplexed as he frequently dreams of his various connections with a mysterious woman.
After verification, he realizes the mysterious woman who appears in his dreams is none other than Shen Zhen, the daughter of the guilty minister. Lu Shiyan approaches her step by step, and also walks towards his unknown destiny.
Centered on the Chengxi Canal case, they experience life and death, learn to trust one another, and develop a deep love for each other.
Lu Shiyan also lives up to his word and, with Shen Zhen’s assistance, uncovers the truth of the case. However, the real mastermind quietly approaches the two of them.
