Quick Review
This is the third e-sports Chinese drama I’ve watched (I’ve watched Gank Your Heart and Go Go Squid). The story arch for The King’s Avatar is very simple. It truly follows Ye Xiu’s comeback throughout the entire 40 episodes. It showcases his character growth, as well as the supporting characters. There is no deviation from the mission of coming back to Glory, and as such there is no romance subplot (though I really wish they would have given Yang Yang a love interest). The drama focuses heavily on the game of Glory, and I loved the graphics. They were very detailed and well done and not at all fake-looking or corny.
For those interested in watching The King’s Avatar (it’s available on Netflix!), I think this is a great easy show to watch if you want some easy entertainment. There is not a lot of sadness and hurt, though the team does go through their own set of hardships and struggles. There is excitement in the battles and funny banter between the teammates. Also, Yang Yang is great to look at 😉. What did you think about the drama? Let me know below!

what is the soundtrack name when they come out to take the cup after they win
Just wonder if there is explaination on the 2 point swing. Seems pretty bogus. Is it because Ye withdrew in the arena challenge instead of being killed?
Yeah haha it is a little bogus to me too. They awarded him the 2 points because he set a new record for his hand speed. In the book, they explain that Ye Xiu has immense hand speed compared to other players and during the competition against Jia Shi he reached an APM of 764. And so, they gave him the 2 extra points (though I agree this probably doesn’t deserve 2 points).
How do you like King’s Avatar compared to Go Go Squid? I loved King’s Avatar and I’m looking for another
Oooh that’s a tough choice! Mostly because they’re completely different types of dramas. King’s Avatar was really focused on the come-back of Ye Xiu and his journey through the e-sports world. It was direct, to-the-point, and the story was simple. The graphics for King’s Avatar was amazing and the drama focused a lot on the e-sports aspect and battle scenes, which is why it appealed more to a male audience.
Go Go Squid on the other hand is super cheerful, and fun. I would categorize it as a romance drama. Though it includes elements of e-sports (the male lead Han Shang Yan leads a team of white-hat hackers and they attend competitions), it focuses a lot more on the romantic development between the male and female lead. It was silly, funny, and the chemistry between Yang Zi and Li Xian was great.
Both dramas were at the top of the charts for summer dramas and attracted a huge audience. But you’d for sure wouldn’t be getting the same kind of feel and story in Go Go Squid compared to King’s Avatar. (To be honest, I became obsessed with Li Xian after watching Go Go Squid hehe) Hope this helped and let me know what you decide to watch next 🙂
a quick clarification. did mucheng join xingxin at the end?
thanks.
Yes she did! So in the book her contract with Jia Shi ends after the challenge competition and then she joins Xing Xin for the pro-league season
