So I binged The Love Equations way too fast and needed to start another drama. I’m going to give The Best Of You In My Mind a chance. They’re both youth romance dramas so it’s a showdown between these two! Here’s my review of The Best Of You In My Mind.
*I’ve so far been watching at 1.15 speed for the episodes, I’m finding that they talk pretty slow at normal speed.
Episode 1 & 2
The ep started off all fun and games and showed off the playful nature between Lin Xi Chi and Xu Fang. But then 20 minutes in there’s a really sad rain scene as Xi Chi realizes her parents will never get back together and Xu Fang stands there with her, staying by her side. You see a different side in their relationship, and can see he knows her really well even though they’re always joking around with one another. First ep and already so much crying! You can really see Xu Fang cares about her a lot. The flashbacks also show really sweet scenes of them as 青梅竹马. But I don’t really get Xi Chi’s logic – Xu Fang didn’t really do anything wrong but tell her a truth she didn’t want to hear, did she really have to break off her friendship with him because of that?
Ouuf second male lead Ye Shao Wen is a cutie!! Omg I didn’t notice in ep 1 but Xu Fang is really tall! Did they make him shorter when he was in high school LOL. I’m guessing they did a time lapse thing by ep 2 because Xu Fang has lost the glasses, looks better, stronger and taller. They’re so playful with one another I love it! He doesn’t princess her around unlike in other typical dramas. He’s defs bullying her around though cuz he likes her hehe.
Episode 3 to 5
I’m liking how the main sport is archery, there’s rarely any focus on archery in media so it’s cool how they picked it to be Xu Fang’s sport. Also the coach is the Skate Into Love coach! LOL Xu Fang’s childish antics of bullying her just shows he wants to be around her – also shows how very conceited he is though haha. Must be really tough to find 100 compliments LOL. Oh maan, Zi Dan likes Xu Fang, I wonder if she’ll get in the way of the two of them?
Omg all they do is prank each other LOL. But now you start to see a different side of their relationship as Xi Chi helps Xu Fang and after he loses the bet tells him to stay strong and stay on as the archery captain. So though they do always joke around they’re still supporting each other.
Awwwh Xu Fang looks so sad when he comes rescue Xi Chi but sees her with Shao Wen! He definitely got jealous and gives Xi Chi his sweater instead heh. Thank you Zheng Xu for telling Xu Fang the obvious that he likes Xi Chi. Time to stop the pranking and move onto sweet moments! Why is the coach so mean to Xu Fang only? Is Xu Fang not good or is he just not trying?
Episode 6 to 8
Finally! As one of the teammates takes interest in Xi Chi Xu Fang realizes he doesn’t want others near her and on some level likes her. Mmm finally some backstory on why Xu Fang behaves the way he does. It’s tough persevering for so long at one thing that sometimes it’s easy to get lost into why you did it in the first place. Definitely Xi Chi is going to help him find his way back in his passion for shooting.
Yay Xi Chi helps him by saying nice things to the coach! LOL so dramatic, shooting in the rain. Aww the last round even with his music he hears Xi Chi cheering him on, and shoots the perfect shot. Hmm I wonder if Shao Wen likes Xi Chi? You can defs see the two males giving each other glances when it comes to Xi Chi. Yayy Xu Fang is growing up and learning to apologize, putting himself in Xi Chi’s position to understand her more. It’s cute when he calls her Chi Chi hehe.
Omg LOL Xi Chi’s long hair look is so weird ahaha I can’t believe she took Xu Fang’s advice. OMG it was a wig LMAO. Aww Ye Shao Wen treats her so nicely, but they’re really awkward around each other on this date haha. Aww and then Xu Fang treated her to a dinner, without any conditions. When will Xi Chi realize he likes her?
Episode 9 & 10
Hmm I’m guessing Chi Chi’s parents have long been divorced but just never told her to save her from the heartbreak but now she knows her mother lied. Oh no Xi Chi thinks the cup from Xu Fang is from Shao Wen! Oh man she feels tired around Shao Wen? Maybe cuz she’s putting up a front but with Xu Fang she’s herself and doesn’t have to pretend to be anyone else.
Honestly she shouldn’t have given up so easily. Work includes tasks that aren’t fun and might be gruesome, Shao Wen is correct in that that’s the difference between a career and interest. LOL Xu Fang is so anxious over her getting bit and needing a shot. Look at the two guys care for her so much! Zi Dan also needs to give up on Xu Fang, all he does is think and worry over Chi Chi.
Episode 11 & 12
I forgot to mention but in the last ep or so Xu Fang’s almost confession was too cute! Xi Chi just didn’t realize he was trying to say he likes her “我喜…” as she mistook it for cleaning LOL “我洗.” The way he looks at her is just adorable, like there’s no one else in the world, and I can’t wait for when the confession is a success!
This mom is actually the worst – time and time again she hurts Chi Chi and doesn’t spend time with her. Xu Fang still is too immature and doesn’t know how to control his anger. Chi Chi came and wanted to talk to him but he was too angry to listen and was just upset about her not heading back with him. Ouf truth is out, Chi Chi’s mom remarried and has another family. Oh poor girl, the news is too sudden and hurts too much for her to accept.
Aww but as soon as Xu Fang hears she’s in trouble he drops everything to find and help her. Omg he knew she was at a KTV? He knows her so well! Heh he gets so anxious when it comes to her. What a sweet scene – when he finds her in the KTV room and she’s laughing and crying and he just doesn’t say anything but looks at her and starts to tear up as well. So cute, him piggybacking her while she’s drunk talking, he’s so caring in this moment! LOL she’s so drunk she can’t even walk ahaha. LOOL she tries to take off all her clothes and Xu Fang folds her into the blankets to stop her, such a gentleman! But his hormones got the better of him hehe.
Geng Geng is such a good brother! It seems like sometimes he’s the older one and more mature than Chi Chi. “我可以让她成为独一无二” OMG what a line! Xu Fang wants to protect Chi Chi forever. I love the sister-brother relationship between Geng Geng and Chi Chi, he’s so loving towards her and wants to protect her as well.
Episode 13 & 14
Omg I’m liking Xu Fang more and more – he’s so attentive to Chi Chi, from the fireworks, giving her food, using his jacket to warm up her feet, closing the window because she’s cold, he so naturally takes care of her. Haha Xu Fang’s parents are so cute, they love Chi Chi so much! Yay Chi Chi realizes Xu Fang is the one that’s always been by her side. Their smiles at one another is so cute hehe. AH Xu Fang hurry up and confess! He stops himself from confessing once again, so silly. Omg Zi Dan is such a b*tch! Just cuz Xu Fang doesn’t like you doesn’t mean you should sabotage Chi Chi. Aww so cute, Xu Fang riding behind her on the bike and then trying to help her make up with her mother. He cares for her so much!
Hehe, I loved how he smirked and then took a cup for himself. Ahhh the locker room scene is so cute – Chi Chi gets nervous when he comes close to her and after she leaves he starts smiling like crazy! LOOL too funny, the lovely confession from Xu Fang is only Chi Chi’s dream! Oh if only it were real! AAH she rejects Ye Shao Wen and finally admits to liking Xu Fang! Xu Fang hurry up and let Chi Chi know how you feel!
Episode 15 & 16
LOL Chi Chi tries to look nice and put on makeup for Xu Fang and he doesn’t appreciate it ahaha. Omg Chi Chi’s so funny now that she knows she likes Xu Fang. She’s so shy and tries to be a completely different person heh. I’m really liking Xu Fang’s hair, the part makes such a big difference. Xu Fang definitely knows something is up! Omg Xu Fang smiling and laughing by himself in the dorm room is the cutest thing ever!
LOL Xu Fang telling himself not to get angry at Chi Chi drawing on his face is too adorable but of course he still gets angry! Aww Chi Chi is so sweet, setting up the cake and celebrating his birthday with him. AHH Xu Fang’s childish manners are so cute, wrapping her in her hood like that. One minute he’s playful and the next he’s sweet, hugging her and confessing! “你得还我一个女朋友…这个愿望我好像能帮你完成.” AHH confession is a success but damnit they didn’t kiss! Awww so natural, Xu Fang taking her hand and them teasing each other but knowing they like each other.
First day together, and they both bought each other breakfast ahhhh. LOL Xu Fang prepared a nice fancy breakfast for Chi Chi and she bought buns ahaha. Omg I’m gonna die of how sweet they are – Xu Fang picking her up after class and them sharing a water bottle, all these simple things are made sweeter cuz they’re now together! Omg Xu Fang yields to Chi Chi so much, so cute. Ahh Xu Fang told his parents right away, I’m so giddy over his love for her. Though their relationship just started, it actually seems like they’ve been together for so long, as they already have so many memories together through their years and years of friendship. Heading back to the places they visited before on Valentine’s is so romantic! OMG what a romantic kiss amongst fireworks. Loved how Xu Fang just took her in close and kissed her hehehe.
Episode 17 & 18
Wooo, Geng Geng got accepted to Rong Da! What a good kid, he’s a good student and an even better brother. LOL this double date hotpot dinner is too funny, Chi Chi is so clueless that her brother likes He Li Yang. But Xu Fang and Chi Chi are so cute, using only their eyes to communicate! AHH so romantic, Xu Fang grabbing her and kissing her instead of eating the candy. Finally some archery action! It seems like it’s been many episodes since we get to see Xu Fang on the field. Xu Fang won the competition! But is he okay? It looked like he was about to faint for a sec. Too much pressure?
Oh nooo something is definitely up with Xu Fang but what is it? Ugh I don’t like this sequence of events, Xu Fang playing off nothing is wrong and being a jerk instead of acknowledging that he’s not feeling right. LOL did I miss the time lapse? All of a sudden they’re now in fourth year LOL what. Okay so it’s a psychological thing. Xu Fang has put too much pressure on himself and it’s affecting his accuracy.
Episode 19 & 20
Xu Fang needs to tell her the real reason why he’s going abroad or else she thinks it’s because of her. Good, Chi Chi finds out that Xu Fang needs help and that he can only get it by training abroad. Awww so sweet as they hold each other in the rain. I’m glad there’s no breakup as they talk things out and Chi Chi knows he needs to go abroad.
LOL Chi Chi gave him a dog tag necklace ahaha. HEH he saw her dating plan with him and created a future booklet for her to write down everything to do with him when he gets back, so cute! Their video chats are so cute! They talk like they’re talking in person and are so natural with one another, it’s so great.
Episode 21 & 22
It’s nice seeing Chi Chi slowly grow up and be independent, finding work and moving into her own place. These two episodes focused on Chi Chi and Xu Fang getting used to their new lives, and though they’re miles apart, they still are together. Chi Chi tries helping Xu Fang with his sickness and Xu Fang experiences doubt that he’ll get better. I’m living through their video chats, they tell each other everything, the smallest of details, it’s so sweet. They also call each other every day, so committed to one another, I love it. Aww poor Xu Fang, I feel for him as he’s alone by himself far away from friends and family.
Episode 23 & 24
Awww what a romantic way to propose by Jiang Zheng Xu, slipping her the ring casually after shooting. Yayyy Xu Fang is coming back! Finally get to see them together on screen. Ahh Xu Fang surprised her with coming back after telling her he’d come back next week! There was so much emotion as the two of them saw each other and teared up. Heh they’re a little awkward together after not seeing each other for so long, so adorable. LOL is it the first time they’re spending the night together? Xu Fang chooses to sleep on the floor and then Chi Chi rolls on top of him LOL. But just like that, they’re back to their old selves and super comfortable with one another. Hehe I love how Xu Fang jokes and teases with her pretending he doesn’t have marriage on his mind!
I love how supportive Chi Chi is on Xu Fang’s athletic journey. She’s willing to wait for him and be alone while he goes off to practice far away. There’s so much love and trust between the two of them no matter what happens. LOL so dramatic, making it rain during competition. Ahhhh the proposal was so beautiful, up on the rooftop in front of friends and family. The ring in the box was for himself LOL, what a move. “林兮迟，你收了我吧” ahhhh adorable. I got teary eyed watching that proposal, it was so sweet. Awww post married life was also so cute. Loved how they made a jab at thinking they’re only in a drama but Xu Fang ends it with “杀青我也爱你”. Perfect end to a perfect couple.
