Summary: The Chinese drama is based on the love story of Liu E and Zhao Heng, set in the Song Dynasty during the reign of Emperor Zhenzong and Renzong. It is a story of diplomatic relations, interdependence, and mutual restraint between neighbouring countries.
Plot Synoposis:
The “Alliance of the Golden Chamber” left by Zhao Kuang Yin’s reign triggers an imperial power struggle in the Song court.
Liu E was originally an orphan in Shu. She meets and falls in love with the third prince Zhao Heng during the war.
After the Qin Wang’s rebellion, the third prince takes the royal throne and they win thebattle of Chanzhou. Liu E has outstanding talents, and she is very careful and respectful when dealing with political affairs. Zhao Heng trusts her deeply.
Zhao Heng loses several princes one after another, and the succession to the throne becomes imminent. Due to their respective interests, the ministers and clan forces fight with each other or secretly form alliances. The Song Dynasty faces an unprecedented crisis.
When Zhao Heng passes, the throne is left to the young and weak Ren Zong. In order to fulfill the last wish of the emperor, Liu E presides over the court.
She listens to the political matters, ends party disputes, builds water conservancy projects, establishes welfare, and properly resolves the disputes and uneasiness of the surrounding ethnic groups.
Liu E makes use of the ministers Fan Zhong Yan, Yan Shu, and Su Xun. Such new-style talents help lay a solid foundation for “Renzong’s prosperous governance” for more than 40 years after Renzong takes reign.
