- Fan Xian tells his father to let Teng Zi Jing go. Fan Jian tells him to be careful. Lady Liu thanks Fan Xian for helping Si Zhe.
- Teng Zi Jing thanks Fan Xian for helping him get the paper. In return, he wants to help Fan Xian kill someone. They decide to look for news on Xu Yun Zhang, the one from the Council who gave the wrong order to kill Fan Xian.
- The Fan family play pai gow. Si Zhe continues to win each round. They play the whole day into the night.
- Ruo Ruo visits Fan Xian, who’s making a humidifier. He tells Ruo Ruo about his mother’s words. He can’t be the person to change the world, and only wants to live happily.
The Emperor Controls Everything
- Teng Zi Jing comes back with night clothes for Fan Xian. Ruo Ruo joins them on their mission. Fan Xian enters the shop for information on Xu Yun Zhang. The Emperor gives him the information he needs. The paper details that Xu Yun Zhang followed the Crown Prince. Fan Xian thinks something is up. He goes back into the shop and everyone is gone. Fan Xian feels all the events since he entered the capital is being controlled by someone, forcing him into the fire. This is all the Emperor’s plan.
The Poetry Society
- The next day, the poetry society takes place. Jin Wang Shi Zi waits for Fan Xian who arrives late. Fan Xian tries to look for his chicken leg girl. He enters the ladies part of the room to find her.
- Guo Bao Kun and Fan Xian jab at each other about who will lose. Guo Bao Kun sets the rules for the competition for today. Fan Xian says they can write as many poems today, he’ll only be writing one and will win.
- Guo Bao Kun writes his poem first. Fan Xian says it’s unbalanced.
- Fan Xian is up next. He makes a bet that if Guo Bao Kun and the others can write a better poem, he won’t write poems for the rest of his life. Everyone gathers around while he writes. The Second Prince gets updates on the poem. The poem is actually a poem from Du Fu, a poet in the future from the Tang Dynasty.
Meeting the Second Prince
- In the backyard, Fan Xian encounters the Second Prince and his bodyguard, Xie Bi An. The Second Prince and Fan Xian chat and he wants to kill Fan Xian to mend he and the Crown Prince’s relationship.
- Guo Bao Kun looks at Fan Xian’s poem and complains the characters are too ugly. Ruo Ruo says they’re competing on poems, not writing words.
- Fan Xian thinks the Second Prince won’t kill him. Bi An takes away the sword.
- The Emperor also gets word on Fan Xian’s poem. He delivers the poem to the Crown Prince. Li Yun Rei knows Guo Bao Kun has lost with this poem.
