- Teng Zi Jing kneels before Fan Xian. He asks for Fan Xian to get an important paper from the Overwatch Council. If so, his life will belong to Fan Xian. Fan Xian isn’t willing. He’ll only help Teng Zi Jing on a different condition. Fan Xian wants to know what’s in the paper and why he killed an official.
Teng Zi Jing’s Story
- Teng Zi Jing tells Fan Xian he helped an old couple being bullied by guards. The guards belonged to Guo Bao Kun, whose father, Guo You Zhi, was the Head of the Education Department. The next day, the Crime Department sentenced Teng Zi Jing to killing an official, with the old couple as the witness. His whole family was to be executed alongside him. Teng Zi Jing begged them to spare his pregnant wife. The Overwatch Council saved him, taking away all papers relating to him and to have him join them.
- Teng Zi Jing secretly came back to Jing Du to look for his family, and needs the paper from the Overwatch Council. Fan Xian agrees to help him.
Wan Er Pushes Back
- Ye Ling Er visits Wan Er. She coughs out blood but remembers what Fan Xian told her, how you eventually get used to the coughing. They talk about her status and her upcoming marriage. Wan Er only wants to marry someone she likes. Ling Er decides to bring Wan Er to find Fan Xian and cancel the marriage agreement.
The Fan Siblings’ Day Out
- Fan Xian, Si Zhe, and Ruo Ruo head out in the city. They’re stopped by people but Teng Zi Jing takes care of them. Si Zhe pretends to not know the attackers.
- Eunuch Hou gives the Emperor updates on Fan Xian and the Princes. Everything is under his watchful eye.
- The Fan siblings head into the restaurant. Fan Xian sees someone selling Red Mansion. He follows them. Wang Qi Nian is selling them and runs away from Fan Xian.
- Wan Er and Ling Er try to find Fan Xian at Fan Manor but he isn’t there.
- Fan Xian joins his siblings and sees everyone on the streets selling the book. Si Zhe wants to sell the book and make money. Si Zhe impresses Fan Xian with his math skills.
An Argument with Guo Bao Kun
- Downstairs, guards of Guo Bao Kun disrupt the selling. He was the one who harmed Teng Zi Jing and his family. Guo Bao Kun bans the book from being read. Si Zhe comes out to yell at him. He Zhong Wei supports Guo Bao Kun.
- Fan Xian comes out to help Si Zhe. He fights off Guo Bao Kun’s guard.
- Fan Xian doesn’t get why they say the book is bad when they haven’t even read it. Jing Wang Shi Zi comes out to support Fan Xian and invites them all to his poetry society.
- Fan Xian knows today’s events were not coincidence. Guo Bao Kun is under the Crown Prince and Jing Wang Shi Zi is under the Second Prince and they were both waiting for him.
- Fan Xian asks why Si Zhe wants to sell the book. He wants to make money and likes making money. Fan Xian agrees to work together as long as they help pretend Fan Xian is in the carriage. Fan Xian leaves for the Overwatch Council.
- On the way home Ruo Ruo and Si Zhe are blocked by Ling Er and Wan Er’s carriage.
