- Fan Xian wonders if he should go to the capital. Wu Zhu says it’s up to him.
Attempted Assassination
- Fan Xian eats dinner with Grandma. He eats a plate full of bamboo shoots and leaves. Butler Zhou tells him it was freshly delivered by Ha’s nephew in the morning.
- Fan Xian throws up. All the servants are sick and also throw up. He gives them milk to get better.
- Fan Xian heads to Ha’s place. He encounters Teng Zi Jing, member of the 4th Division of the Overwatch Council. They fight. Teng Zi Jing loses the fight. His order was to only kill Fan Xian, the capital’s traitor. Fan Xian shows him the badge from the Overwatch Council and thinks something’s wrong with the order. Fan Xian asks how he got into Fan manor.
- After the fight, Fan Xian heads home. Grandma has tied up Butler Zhou. He works for Fan Jian’s second wife, Lady Liu, and didn’t want Fan Xian to go to the capital. Grandma banishes him to never come onshore again.
Heading to the Capital
- Fan Xian wants to go to the capital to find the truth. He tells Grandma he’ll be careful.
- Fan Xian always acted cold to Grandma to protect her from those seeking to kill him.
- Teng Zi Jing tells Fan Xian the order was false. Someone wanted to use the power of the Overwatch Council to kill Fan Xian. Then, Teng Zi Jing asks Fan Xian to kill him.
- Fan Xian tells Wu Zhu he will go to the capital. Fan Xian tells Wu Zhu to live for himself.
- Back at home, while packing, Wu Zhu arrives. He remembers that Fan Xian’s mother also said those words. Wu Zhu says he wants to open a box that belonged to Ye Qing Mei. They try to open the box but fail. Wu Zhu says he’ll also go to the capital to find the key to open the box.
- Fan Xian leaves Fan manor. He says goodbye to Grandma and tells her to wait for him.
The Road to the Capital, Jing Dou
- Fan Xian finds Teng Zi Jing amongst his servants. He wants to secretly go back to the capital. Zi Jing says Fan Xian has to go to the capital to get married.
- On the road Fan Xian runs into Fei Jie and others from the Overwatch Council. Fei Jie tells Fan Xian he’s heading to Northern Qi. They always had a spy network there and need a new leader. It will be Yan Ruo Hai’s son, Yan Bing Yun. Bing Yun is being sent away because Teng Zi Jing was his subordinate and almost killed Fan Xian. The Chancellor made Bing Yun take responsibility for the mistake.
- Fan Xian is stopped by Bing Yun. He wants the Overwatch Council badge. Fei Jie stops Bing Yun from coming out of the carriage and fighting.
In Jing Dou
- At the capital gate Wang Qi Nian, secretary for the Overwatch Council stops Fan Xian. Qi Nian tricks Fan Xian into buying a map and paying two liang. Teng Zi Jing parts ways with Fan Xian.
- Fan Xian and his guards are stopped in front of Fan manor. They go on a detour. Inside Fan manor royal guards kill prostitutes.
- Fan Xian arrives at a temple but is not let in. The guard says he can only go to the side hall, not the main temple.
